The Necessity of Perseverance

On this journey of faith, we face many different types of situations, some good, while others can be quite challenging. I know I've faced circumstances in my life where my plea to the Father was, "Please get me out of this," or "I don't know how much more I can take." I've honestly been in a place during the extremely early part of my walk where I felt like walking away because the pressure was too heavy.

Whenever you are faced with any of those types of thoughts, this is exactly why we must pivot and change our way of thinking. Yes, your feelings are valid, and Abba Yah sees and hears you. But we decide if we are going to stand on truth, stand with Him, and gird up the loins of our minds.

Understanding Perseverance

This brings us to the art of perseverance. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, perseverance means to persist in a state, enterprise, or undertaking despite counterinfluences, opposition, or discouragement.

Where have we seen this definition come into play? Scripture shows us clearly:

"Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him." (James 1:12)

We must remain steadfast—fixed in direction—in Ha'Mashiach. We must keep our eyes on Him, and no matter how things look or feel, we must stay on the course. Remember, He told us in Matthew 7:14, "Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."

Few who find it. The way is not easy. It's hard, and one reason for the hardship is the fight with our flesh. Our flesh will tempt us to do what we don't want to do, to give up, to choose what is fast, quick, and easy.

The Battle Within

Galatians 5:17 says, "For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish."

So, we battle with self and against the pull to fall into what's familiar and comfortable. But we must walk in the Ruach so that we won't fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Galatians 5:16 declares, "I say then: Walk in the Ruach, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh."

How to Overcome

So you may be wondering, how in the world can I have a fighting chance against my flesh? I'm glad you asked.

It comes from deciding to love Yahuah and dedicating yourself to Him, His agenda, His will. Flee idolatry and refuse to make idols out of others, your feelings, other things, and yes, even yourself.

Deuteronomy 6:5-8 teaches us:

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up."

We must choose to let go of worldly mindsets, perceptions, lies, and corrupt data sown into our souls. We must be determined to follow Him and be retaught.

The Need for Relationship

This passage emphasizes the need for constant fellowship with Yahuah. Persevere to maintain a consistent prayer and Word life. We must hide the Word in our hearts—read, meditate, study, talk about, and apply the Word to our lives.

Reciprocation is key. Having an authentic relationship with Abba Yah is necessary. He isn't a genie, an automated wish-giver, or a magic wand. We are partnering with Him as we completely acknowledge that His will always come first. When we have this understanding and accept Him fully into our lives, not just parts of it-we will mature and continue to grow while exhibiting humility and refusing to allow pride to cause us to err by attempting to dominate Abba Yah (which will never happen and will only hurt us).

Keys to Perseverance

To have perseverance amidst trials and difficulties:

Love Yah with all your mind, soul, and strength. Remember, the soul consists of the mind, will, and emotions.

Remember that Yahshuah's blood cleanses, restores, heals, and forgives. His blood also empowers us to walk the journey on the straight and narrow path.

Allow yourself to be transformed by the renewing of your mind as you read, meditate, speak, and apply the Word. Accept the truth as the truth and evict all lies.

Allow the Ruach HaKodesh to reveal and dislodge any untruths that may be lodged in the spaces of your heart.

Walk in humility because when we submit to Elohim and resist the devil, he will flee.

When you struggle with certain thoughts or feelings, allow Abba Yah to walk you through it. Have an authentic conversation with Him, expressing your heart, and allow the Ruach to bring those scriptures of encouragement and edification back to your remembrance. Don't condemn yourself. Just allow Him into every space. He already knows every thought and motive of the heart. He is standing right beside you to help and strengthen you.

Elohim is an Elohim of success, not failure. So that means you are not one either.
